Banteay Srei Cambodia - visiting the Citadel of Women at Angkor Park with pictures.
The Temple, two libararies and other buildings within the site are surrounded by a small moat and the temple is dedicated to Shiva. Generally constructed from red sandstone the temple has been beautifully carved with Indian Gods and Goddesses - the latter are dressed in Indian style skirts with lavish jewellery. Apart from the small size of the buildings in comarison to other Angkor
temples, Banteay Srei is unusual in that it is the only structure in the area which was not originally constructed by one of the Khmer Kings - although this changed sometime during the 11th century when the temple was refurbished and re-dedicated to Siva.
